CO₂-Reduktion und Klimaschutz bei Maren Jewellery

CO₂ Reduction and Climate Protection at Maren Jewellery

Sustainability

Whenever we need inspiration, when the soul thirsts and a break is needed, then we find the answer to all these longings in nature. Because it holds something that no city has yet: a pervasive peace. And with this peace we want to be in relationship, we want to be part, but not only. After all, relationships are about give and take.

Sustainable jewelry with a love for nature

In harmony with nature

Maren Jewellery stands for luxury jewelry with the goal of placing greater emphasis on ecological and social aspects along the value chain. That does not stop with the materials we use. But it starts there. That is why we craft our jewelry pieces from  recycled 18-carat gold, white gold, and  925 sterling silver. Instead of natural diamonds, whose origin cannot always be traced in full and whose extraction can in some cases involve social and environmental risks, we have chosen lab-grown diamonds. It took us a long time to establish a supply chain that lives up to our standards, with partners who take our goals as seriously as we do.

Our use of resources

But of course: Whenever something is produced, waste products are also produced. We are working to ensure that all our waste products are recyclable and can therefore simply be fed back into the production cycle. And here we come circular economy closer and closer, for example by doing without plastic and other non-degradable resources. But it's all about the means of production. But what about our carbon footprintk?

What we love we must protect

Climate-conscious work

Reducing emissions is a core part of our sustainability approach. Everything we can do is reduce our emissions; at present, we cannot avoid them entirely. We optimize every area at Maren so that we consume as little as possible. We offset the remaining share of our emissions through certified climate protection projects. Our focus is on reducing emissions along our value chain and supporting additional climate action measures.

And the results speak for themselves. According to our calculations, the CO₂ values of our jewelry are significantly lower than the comparative values for conventional luxury jewelry described in the literature.

Unsere carbon footprint

Thanks to our holistic sustainability approach, the CO₂ footprint of our jewelry pieces is only 0.4 kg CO₂ (1)(2)(3) per piece produced. For comparison: conventional luxury jewelry uses up to 29.27 kg CO₂ per piece depending on the method (5). For this comparison, we deliberately chose the lower values from the literature in order to use conservative, verifiable figures.

Our approach to emissions offsetting

But at Maren Jewellery, we go one step further: with every purchase of one of our pieces of jewelry, we offset 100 kg of CO2 through donations to the Chooose initiative (4). This means the offset exceeds the actual consumption of 0.4 kg CO2 per piece of jewelry many times over.

You can find the individual CO2 footprint on every product page, and in our journal on the life cycle assessment more details about the calculation. In addition, we publish our annual CO2 footprint, which covers all areas of our company, in our Sustainability Report. With this comprehensive approach, we create transparency about our emissions and support additional climate protection measures. And we do this together!

We continuously reduce our emissions and additionally support certified climate protection projects. We publish the details transparently in our Sustainability Report. We are proud of that. Because: what we love, we must protect. We love nature. What do you love?
