After studying jewelry design in Pforzheim and spending many years in the industry, the designer founded Maren Jewellery in 2020 to create jewelry according to her own values: handcrafted and defined by a quiet luxury aesthetic. Using recycled gold and lab-grown diamonds, she creates pieces that do not need to be loud to make an impact—for women who value timeless design and a traceable origin of materials.
Our commitment begins with the conscious choice of materials: for our silver jewelry, we use 925 recycled silver, relying on silver that already exists. We source it from Kettenmanufaktur Walter Fischer in Idar-Oberstein. This craft workshop makes our silver chains and silver bracelets in Germany and also recycles the silver for them. For us, it is precisely this choice of materials that makes the silver jewelry special: the recycled silver was already part of an existing material cycle before it is reused in a new piece of jewelry. Frequently Asked Questions about Silver Jewelry
Just like with recycled gold, 925 recycled silver can also reduce the need for new, finite resources. Silver is already found in many production waste materials or goods that are no longer needed and can be recycled from them for reuse. Silver can also be melted down without any loss of material or quality, so existing silver can be reused very well. Since silver is usually mined together with gold, recycled silver can help reduce the need for newly mined silver and the associated strain. The recycling process for silver uses 7-14 times less CO2 than newly mined silver. In addition, recycling silver can also prevent tons of toxic mine waste from entering our water, people from being displaced because of mine construction, or forests that are important for our biodiversity from being cut down.
What are the benefits of recycling silver?
The 925 sterling silver that we use for our jewelry is also sourced by our partner, Kettenmanufaktur Fischer, using a silver recycling process. Just like with gold, we continuously collect all our silver scraps created during the making of our jewelry through polishing, filing, or casting, and hand them over to our partners so they can be melted down with additional refining material into 925 sterling silver. To do this, the refining material is melted down here as well until it homogenizes and can be cast into bars. Samples are then taken from these bars, which are quarted with lead. The lead absorbs the precious metals in the crucible, then evaporates in the heat, leaving behind the precious metal grain. This grain is then hammered and rolled and dissolved in aqua regia so it can be separated from other precious metals and processed into recycled 925 sterling silver for our jewelry pieces.
