After studying jewelry design in Pforzheim and spending many years in the industry, the designer founded Maren Jewellery in 2020 to create jewelry according to her own values: handcrafted and defined by a quiet luxury aesthetic. Using recycled gold and lab-grown diamonds, she creates pieces that do not need to be loud to make an impact—for women who value timeless design and a traceable origin of materials.
Our commitment starts with the conscious choice of materials: For our silver jewelry, we use 925 recycled silver, relying on existing silver. We source it from Walter Fischer chain manufactory in Idar-Oberstein. This craftsman’s workshop produces our silver chains and silver bracelets in Germany from recycled silver. For us, it is precisely this choice of materials that makes the silver jewelry special: the recycled silver used comes from existing material and is processed again into new pieces of jewelry. Frequently Asked Questions about Silver Jewelry
Similar to gold extraction, silver extraction can also be associated with social and environmental impacts depending on the mining method and origin. That is why, since founding Maren Jewellery, we have deliberately chosen to use only recycled silver from Germany. We stand by this decision to this day with complete conviction. On the one hand, of course, for the social and environmental reasons mentioned above; on the other hand, because recycled metal is in no way inferior to newly mined silver in terms of its properties. Just like with recycled gold, reusing 925 recycled silver can also reduce the demand for newly mined silver. Silver is already found in many production wastes or goods no longer needed and can be recycled from them. In addition, silver can be melted down without any loss of material or quality.
What are the benefits of recycling silver?
The 925 sterling silver that we use for our jewellery is also sourced by our partner, Kettenmanufaktur Fischer, using a silver recycling process. Just like with gold, we continuously collect all our silver remnants created during the production of our pieces through polishing, filing, or casting, and pass them on to our partners so they can be melted down with additional refining material into 925 sterling silver. The refining material is also melted down here until it has homogenized and can be cast into bars. Samples are then taken from these bars and parted with lead. The lead absorbs the precious metals in the crucible, then vaporizes in the heat, leaving behind the precious metal grain. This grain is then hammered and rolled and dissolved in aqua regia so that it can be separated from other precious metals and processed into our jewellery as recycled 925 sterling silver.
